Hyejung Kang has B.S. in Statistics and Computing from Seoul National University. She followed it with an M. A. in C&TE (Curriculum Studies and Teacher Education) in Math and Science from Stanford University. As a graduate student there, she was exposed to exciting new developments happening in the cognitive science and its application to education.
What she learned during the time and her hands on experience bringing up the first son as he attended the famed Bing school provided her with progressive outlook on early child education.
At the same time, Hyejung's own childhood experience in Korea, with far more traditional and disciplined flavor, complements the liberal, creativity approach.
Hyejung's educational philosophy is thus formed advocating prime emphasis on opening up children’s mind to active exploration while at the same time making sure they acquire mastery in fundamental elements. This balancing act is possible only because the Math Game House curriculum and activities are carefully tailored to meet each child's needs.
The first ever Math Game House session started in 2000 that included Hyejung's second son as a member.
Several MGH alumni overcame severe math-phobia to become class leaders and moved on to prestigious higher education institutes such as Harvard, U of Chicago, Dartmouth, U Penn, Cornell as well as other excellent programs. As the MGH student move on to science/engineering, to English literature, or to Arts, he or she will do so with confidence equipped with well nurtured curiosity and superb critical thinking.
